City Break, Winter in Dublin
Most travel guides recommend visiting Dublin between April and September, which is exactly why I prefer to go in November or December. Although there will undoubtedly be a line to see the Book of Kells at any time of year, most attractions are noticeably less crowded. There are usually great hotel and airfare deals to be found this time of year. Although Ireland can be rainy and chilly year-round, the winters are actually quite moderate compared to much of Europe.
The city is particularly beautiful all dressed up for Christmas. From Grafton Street to Henry Street, the shopping is made festive by the holiday lights.
Dublin Castle is particularly lovely this time of year, and even the lively Temple Bar neighborhood gets in the Christmas spirit and seems a little less rowdy this time of year.
Many of the city’s great restaurants feature special Christmas menus, and the shops are filled with mince pies, Christmas pudding, and other seasonal staples. Brown Thomas, Avoca, and Fallon and Byrne are among my favorite stops for food gifts.
When it gets too cold, Dublin’s many pubs or the Guinness Storehouse are great places to stay warm.
I am so thankful that I can see parts of the world through this blog.
I love the lights on the building. Very beautiful.
It’s a beautiful time of year. I recommend visiting!
